Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari received the credentials of the Ambassador-designate of Italy, Ugo Ciarlatani, and the Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea, Han Sungho, at Aiwan-e-Sadr today. The event marked a diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening Pakistan's ties with both nations.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari expressed confidence in Ambassador Ciarlatani's ability to foster stronger relations between Pakistan and Italy. He noted the growth in bilateral trade, which has exceeded $1 billion, and acknowledged the recent agreement abolishing visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders. The President also appreciated Italy's support for Pakistan’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2025-26 term and highlighted the role of the Pakistani community in Italy as a vital link between the two countries.

In his meeting with Ambassador Han Sungho, President Zardari emphasized the importance of Pakistan's relationship with the Republic of Korea, expressing a desire to expand trade and investment ties. He mentioned ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and welcomed cooperation in climate change, development, and defense sectors. The President expressed optimism for continued growth in cooperation in areas such as shipbuilding, technology, and economic development.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs were also present during the meeting, underscoring the significance of these diplomatic engagements.
