Kech: In Pakistan's 2024 General Elections, the Member of the National Assembly from NA-259 Kech-cum-Gwadar secured victory with 40,778 votes, representing 35% of the ballots cast and a mere 13% of the total registered voters in the constituency.

According to Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), the final consolidated result, referred to as Form-49, indicates a voter turnout of 38% in the constituency. Despite the win, the elected representative did not have the majority support of those who voted, as 63% cast their ballots for other candidates during the elections held on February 8, 2024.

The electoral data shows that the runner-up candidate received 19% of the votes, while the third-placed candidate secured 18%, and the remaining candidates together garnered 25% of the votes. Additionally, 2% of the votes were declared invalid.

This analysis is part of FAFEN's broader examination of electoral representativeness across Pakistan's 266 National Assembly constituencies. Under the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system, the candidate with the highest number of votes wins, even without majority support. FAFEN's findings highlight the significant gap between voter preferences and representation under this system, contrasting it with proportional representation models where seats are allocated in alignment with vote shares.
