NUMS Public Health Department Conducts Intensive Training for Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety

Islamabad: The NUMS Department of Public Health recently concluded a comprehensive five-day face-to-face contact session for the Certificate in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety (CHQPS) Batch II (2026). Taking place from February 9 to 13, 2026, at KHINAMS, the session hosted clinicians, healthcare administrators, and nursing staff from diverse health institutions across Pakistan, aimed at enhancing competencies in healthcare quality improvement and patient safety.

According to National University of Medical Sciences, the CHQPS is a specialized six-month certificate program focusing on leadership, interprofessional collaboration, clinical governance, regulatory frameworks, and evidence-based quality enhancement strategies. The session began with an inaugural event featuring welcoming remarks by Prof. Dr. Uzma Hassan, Head of the Department of Public Health. Key sessions included lectures by top professionals like Dr. Mati ur Rehman and Dr. Salwa Ahsan, addressing crucial topics such as human factors, certification, regulation, and medication safety in healthcare.

Subsequent days featured a diverse range of topics including health systems and global perspectives, accountability mechanisms, and continuous quality improvement. Notable speakers like Prof. Dr. Baber Tasneem Sheikh and Maj Gen Muhammad Aleem (Retd) offered insights into health system responsiveness and evidence-based strategies for quality improvement. A significant component was a field study experience that provided participants with practical exposure to healthcare regulatory and quality assurance mechanisms in Islamabad.

The session concluded with discussions on data analytics, leadership, and change management, led by experts such as Dr. Rubab Farooqi and Dr. Babar Saeed Khan. Associate Professor Dr. Tamkeen Jaffry expressed gratitude to the leadership and coordination team for their efforts in delivering a program that participants lauded for its practical approach and expert-led discussions.
