Jhang’s Voter Registration Rate Surpasses National Average

Jhang: The voter registration rate in Jhang has reached 58% of its projected 2025 population, surpassing the national average of 54% by four percentage points. This notable achievement highlights Jhang's proactive approach to voter enrollment, reflecting the district's commitment to ensuring electoral participation.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, the data is derived from district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025, and is based on population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. The estimated 2025 population of Jhang is 3,186,365, calculated by applying a 1.95% annual growth rate to the district's 2023 census base population of 3,065,639. The voter registration rates are determined by dividing the number of registered voters by this estimated population.

The district boasts 1.9 million registered voters, comprising 53.2% males and 46.8% females. Among the male population, 60% are registered, while female registration stands at 56%. Jhang ranks 23rd out of 136 districts nationally by population size and is represented by three Members of the National Assembly. In terms of voter registration rate, Jhang ranks 31st nationally and 19th out of 36 within the Punjab province.

Jhang's high voter registration rate can be attributed to two specific rules from Pakistan's 2023 Digital Census. The census did not enumerate household members absent for more than six months at their home address, and previous household members living elsewhere were recorded at their current address. As a result, many residents who migrated for employment to other urban centers like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad were counted at their new locations but remained registered voters in Jhang, based on their permanent CNIC address. This discrepancy resulted in a smaller population denominator compared to the registered voter roll, leading to a higher registration ratio than the national average.

While female voters constitute 46.8% of Jhang's registered electorate, there remains a gender gap of 6.3%. Sustained efforts to promote equitable female voter registration are essential despite the district's overall strong registration rate.
