Manama: President Asif Ali Zardari addressed a reception at the headquarters of the Economic Development Board of the Kingdom of Bahrain, underscoring Pakistan's commitment to expanding economic cooperation, investment partnerships, and institutional linkages with Bahrain.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari expressed appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for the hospitality extended during the visit. He also conveyed gratitude for the conferment of the Sheikh Issa Award, describing it as a gesture reflecting the depth of bilateral ties and mutual respect between the two nations. The President acknowledged the reception as a testament to the close friendship between Pakistan and Bahrain.
President Zardari commended the Economic Development Board for its strategic vision and institutional strength, noting Bahrain's success as an open and investor-friendly economy. As Bahrain's Finance Minister began a briefing on economic development, President Zardari made a remark about the visible progress of the Manama skyline.
The President highlighted the Economic Development Board's role in shaping Bahrain's economic strategy, attracting foreign investment, and supporting diversification in key sectors. He observed that the Board's coordination with government institutions and the private sector has enhanced Bahrain's competitiveness and created an enabling environment for investors.
President Zardari remarked that the Economic Development Board's model of policy coherence and investor facilitation serves as a reference for countries pursuing sustainable growth. He highlighted Pakistan's economic reforms, aiming for stability and investment-led growth, through platforms like the Special Investment Facilitation Council.
The President identified agriculture, information technology, renewable energy, and logistics as promising areas for collaboration between Pakistan and Bahrain. He emphasized Pakistan's strategic geographic connectivity, linking South Asia, Central Asia, China, and the Middle East, which complements Bahrain's financial and regulatory strengths.
Addressing regional security challenges, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan's resolve to counter extremism and strengthen internal security while pursuing peaceful relations with neighbors.
