Punjab Belongs to Everyone: PPP Warns Against Ethnic Politics

Islamabad: In a fervent press conference held in Islamabad, PPP Central Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan, alongside Member of the National Assembly Syed Agha Rafiullah, delivered a pointed message against the perils of ethnic politics in Punjab. Chan emphasized that Punjab belongs to everyone and urged political leaders to refrain from playing the “Punjabi card.”

Chan highlighted the deep-rooted involvement of his family in Punjab’s political landscape since 1926 and reminded the public that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was founded in this very province. He expressed support for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, stating that the party had voted for her, underlining the unity among political factions.

Drawing parallels with divisive politics, Chan cautioned against using language reminiscent of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly concerning water and resource allocation. He stressed that Pakistan’s resources, including water, electricity, gold, and gas, belong to all its citizens, urging collective efforts to eradicate poverty and focus on the rehabilitation of flood victims.

Chan criticized the current governance in Punjab, alleging that only a handful of bureaucrats were running the show, sidelining elected representatives. He called for a shift in governance, advocating for leadership by the people’s representatives rather than bureaucrats.

Addressing the pressing issues within the National Assembly, Chan asserted the PPP’s unity and denounced the blame games initiated by other parties. He stressed the importance of accountability and expressed the PPP’s commitment to championing the rights of Punjab’s populace.

Chan also touched upon an agreement between the PML-N and PPP regarding local government elections in Punjab, urging the ruling party to honor its commitments. He called for immediate relief for flood victims, highlighting the need for decisive action rather than symbolic gestures.
