Pakistan’s President Reaffirms Commitment to Democratic Ideals on World Democracy Day

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan emphasized the crucial role of democracy in fostering citizen engagement and safeguarding fundamental rights in a message marking World Democracy Day on September 15, 2025.

World Democracy Day serves as a reminder of democracy’s power to empower citizens and foster political, economic, and social participation. President Zardari highlighted the importance of tolerance, respect for opposing views, and political pluralism as essential components of a democratic society that protects individual rights.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s political journey, President Zardari paid tribute to leaders like Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, whose sacrifices have been instrumental in restoring and strengthening democratic institutions in the country. Their legacy underscores the ongoing struggle to uphold democratic ideals.
