Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Calls for Unity on Democracy Day

KARACHI: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, emphasized the vital role of democracy in Pakistan’s national identity and progress. In a statement marking the International Day of Democracy, he described democracy as the people’s true voice, the weak’s shield, and the nation’s strength.

The message, issued by the Media Cell at Bilawal House, highlighted democracy as more than a governance system but a covenant between citizens and their representatives. It ensures justice, equality, and freedom, fostering active citizen participation and political diversity.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari referenced the sacrifices made for Pakistan’s democratic journey, notably by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. He noted the PPP’s role in enhancing parliamentary power through the 18th Constitutional Amendment under President Asif Ali Zardari’s leadership.

He urged citizens and institutions to recognize their duty to protect democracy, stressing that any compromise threatens the country’s future. He called on Pakistani youth to guard democratic values and contribute to building a just and prosperous nation.

Reaffirming his commitment to democracy, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pledged that the PPP would continue its pursuit of a democratic and peaceful Pakistan, honoring its founding leaders’ vision and the people’s aspirations. He stated that the sacrifices of democratic heroes would not be forgotten, as their courage lights the nation’s path.
