Karachi: President of the Society for Human Rights and Environment Protection, Muhammad Saeed Rajput, called for a more impactful observance of World Environment Day to enhance environmental awareness. He made these remarks during a meeting with Dr. Waqar Ahmed and Dr. Farrukh Nawaz from the University of Karachi.
A delegation from SHEP visited the University of Karachi on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025. This visit included a tree plantation campaign organized in collaboration with Ghandhara Industries.
The discussions focused on environmental protection, sustainable development, climate change impacts, and tree plantation promotion. Dr. Farrukh Nawaz emphasized the need for an effective ban on plastic bags, highlighting the United Nations’ theme of ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ for World Environment Day 2025.
Eliminating plastic, especially single-use bags, was discussed as crucial for environmental sustainability. The delegation agreed on the need to reduce plastic use and improve recycling systems.
Saeed Rajput stressed the importance of raising awareness through tree plantation and environmental education in developing countries like Pakistan. He emphasized that collective efforts are necessary to combat climate change.
The SHEP delegation expressed interest in engaging students and faculty at the University of Karachi in plantation activities, viewing it as a way to involve youth in environmental protection.
