Panel Discussion at GCU Explores Automation’s Role in Economy

Lahore: A panel discussion centered on the impact of automation and artificial intelligence on Pakistan’s economy was recently held at Government College University (GCU), highlighting the need for educational reforms and technological adoption. Organized by the Mehboob-ul-Haq Economics Society, the event drew experts from diverse fields to discuss the implications of emerging technologies.

According to a statement by Government College University, Dr. Shahzad Hussain, Head of the Department of Public Policy and Governance, stressed the importance of integrating new technologies to align with global economic trends. He noted that while artificial intelligence might transform the workforce, it would also create new job opportunities, making IT skills crucial for students.

Dr. Fareeha Zafar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, underscored the necessity for updating academic curricula. She argued that equipping students with contemporary technological knowledge is vital to prepare them for future challenges.

The panel also included Dr. Uzair Ahson from the Department of Economics, Wajahat Usman, and Dr. Mahroona from the Department of Public Policy and Governance. The experts collectively emphasized the significance of investing in education, research, and technology to boost Pakistan’s global economic competitiveness.
