Media Bodies Reject Unilateral PECA Amendments

Karachi: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has expressed its opposition to any amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) that are made without engaging media organizations in consultations. JAC, which includes representatives from the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND), and the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), issued a joint statement highlighting this stance.

According to a statement by Pakistan Broadcasters Association, JAC and its members have not yet received any draft of the proposed amendments. The absence of this draft prevents JAC members from providing informed feedback on the planned changes. The committee has urged the government to ensure that no amendments are enacted without comprehensive discussions with all relevant stakeholders.
