International Islamic University Hosts Global E-Workshop on Molecular Informatics

Islamabad: The Department of Biological Sciences at International Islamic University recently hosted a five-day international e-workshop, “Molecular Informatics: Transforming Biotechnology with Computational Techniques,” from August 31 to September 4, 2024. Conducted via Zoom, the event drew 300 participants worldwide, including students and faculty from various academic levels.

According to International Islamic University Islamabad, the workshop provided practical training in advanced computational techniques critical to modern biotechnology. Sessions covered Python programming, FASTA, Panda, and Anaconda, with a focus on data visualization and analysis tools essential for RNA sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies.

The event featured an array of distinguished international and national speakers, including Dr. Michael Saint Antoine from the USA, Dr. Ming-Tommy Tang of AstraZeneca, and several others from notable institutions, contributing diverse perspectives on the integration of computational methods in biotechnology research.

Participants praised the workshop for its insightful content and practical applications, which are expected to enhance their research capabilities. The university’s Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, and other department leaders lauded the organizational efforts, recognizing the significant academic contributions of the workshop to the field of biotechnology.
