President Zardari Advocates for Enhanced Commonwealth Collaboration in Climate Initiatives

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for strengthened cooperation with the Commonwealth, focusing on climate change, education, and disaster preparedness, during a meeting with a delegation led by Secretary-General Patricia Scotland at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the President stressed the importance of increasing interactions among parliamentary bodies and students to deepen ties with Commonwealth countries. He highlighted Pakistan’s significant role as a founding member of the Commonwealth and its efforts to promote cooperation among member states.

During discussions on climate change, President Zardari detailed Pakistan’s challenges and initiatives, including planting over 2 million mangroves in Sindh and constructing flood-resilient houses post-2022 floods, which have contributed to carbon credit trading and mitigation efforts. Secretary-General Scotland acknowledged Pakistan’s vulnerabilities to climate impacts and appreciated its active engagement within the Commonwealth framework.

The meeting underscored the mutual commitment to enhancing partnership and addressing global challenges through collective action and shared strategies.
