Karachi: In a concerted effort to support maternal health, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, backed by the Norwegian Red Cross, distributed hygiene kits to pregnant and lactating women in Sehwan, highlighting the ongoing commitment to health initiatives in rural Pakistan.
According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the distribution event took place in the village of Bakhtyarpur, UC Arazi, Tehsil Sehwan of District Jamshoro, where 150 hygiene kits were handed out. The visit was marked by the presence of Ms. Hanne Kristofrenn from the humanitarian need assessment unit, along with other delegates from Oslo, Norway. This initiative is part of the broader “Cash for Health” program aimed at improving health outcomes for vulnerable communities.
Dr. Iffthikar Aliyar, country manager of the Norwegian Red Cross, and Riaz Hussain, AD Coordination from the PRCS national headquarters in Islamabad, stated that the project also includes financial support, with the first installment of PKR 32,000 already provided to 1,000 pregnant and lactating women (PLWs). Two additional installments of the same amount are scheduled to be distributed to help these women improve their health conditions.
The event was attended by notable figures such as Mr. Kanwar Waseem, provincial secretary of PRCS Sindh, and other officials from both the PRCS and the Norwegian Red Cross, emphasizing the collaborative effort between local and international bodies to address health needs in the region.
