Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma Climb in ICC Women’s T20I Rankings Following Asia Cup Performances

Mumbai: Indian cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma have ascended in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings, now both holding joint-11th position. Their progress comes in the wake of their recent performances at the Women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, signaling significant contributions to their team’s standing in the tournament.

According to International Cricket Council, the rankings update followed the weekly review. Kaur, India’s captain, advanced one spot bolstered by her scoring of 66 runs against the United Arab Emirates and an unbeaten 5 against Pakistan. Opener Verma improved her ranking by four positions, thanks to innings of 40 and 37.

In the bowlers’ rankings, Sri Lanka’s off-spinner Inoshi Priyadharshani also made significant strides, moving up three places to reach a career-best fourth position after claiming two wickets against Bangladesh and one against Malaysia.

The update has seen several other cricketers from participating countries making notable gains. Among them, India’s Richa Ghosh climbed four spots to 24th, while Bangladesh’s Murshida Khatun and Sri Lanka’s Vishmi Gunaratne moved up six and seven places, respectively. Thailand’s Nattaya Boochatham made a considerable leap of ten positions to 76th.

Bowlers from various teams also improved their standings, with Bangladesh’s Nahida Akter rising nine places to 21st and Marufa Akter climbing one spot to 26th. Sri Lanka’s Udeshika Prabodhani and India’s Shreyanka Patil made significant gains as well.

Additionally, England captain Heather Knight returned to the top 20 after a strong performance against New Zealand, and Lauren Bell moved into the top 10 bowlers following a three-wicket haul in the series’ final match.

The rankings reflect the dynamic nature of women’s T20 cricket, showcasing the ongoing shifts and the competitive spirit of the players as they vie for top spots on the global stage.
