Dr. Muhammad Usman and MS Student Receive International Recognition for Scientific Contributions

Topi: Dr. Muhammad Usman, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Basic Sciences (FBS), has been acknowledged for his significant contributions to condensed matter physics and photonics, earning multiple international awards. Additionally, MS student Mr. M. Warsham Qaiser has been recognized for his innovative project at Pakistan’s First Quantum Computing Hackathon.

According to Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Dr. Usman received the Physica B Award on Condensed Matter 2025, which acknowledges early-career researchers making advancements in Computational Materials Design. The award, bestowed by Physica B: Condensed Matter (Elsevier), includes both a certificate and a monetary prize, celebrating impactful contributions in materials physics. Moreover, Dr. Usman’s research was honored with the 2025 Paper of the Year award by the Journal of Information Display, a recognition sponsored by Taylor and Francis and the Korea Information Display Society. This award emphasizes high-impact research in display science and technology.

Dr. Usman has also been named a Photonics100 honoree by Electro Optics, an annual recognition of innovators and leaders in photonics research. This accolade highlights contributions in optics, lasers, and next-generation optical technologies. These achievements mark Dr. Usman as a pioneering figure in his field, with the faculty noting that he is the first Pakistani researcher to receive these distinctions.

In addition to Dr. Usman’s accolades, Mr. M. Warsham Qaiser, an MS student under Dr. Tahir Naseem, secured Second Prize at Pakistan’s First Quantum Computing Hackathon. His project, "Quantum-Enhanced Flood Management System," earned a cash award of Rs. 600,000. The hackathon, supported by the United Nations and other institutions, showcased innovative quantum computing applications.

The faculty of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute commended both Dr. Usman and Mr. Qaiser for their accomplishments, highlighting the impact of their research on scientific and technological advancements.
