UVAS Hosts Events to Celebrate World Food Day

Lahore: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) City Campus was abuzz with activities as it hosted a seminar along with cooking and poster competitions to commemorate World Food Day, emphasizing the importance of food security and sustainable nutrition practices.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the event, organized by the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition and the Food and Nutrition Society, spanned two days and included competitions that drew 44 teams for poster presentations and 46 teams for cooking demonstrations. The competitions aimed to highlight the creative and culinary skills of the participants, underscoring the theme “Right to foods for a better life and a better future.”

The seminar featured distinguished speakers including Ms. Amara Khan, Provincial Manager of the World Food Program, Ms. Neelam Sana, Quality Specialist at Nestle Pakistan, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed, Director of Supplier Chain at Fauji Fresh and Freeze, and Mr. Mubeen Arshad Awan, Quality Assurance Head at Bundu Khan Foods. They discussed critical topics related to food security, nutrition, and the adoption of sustainable practices to tackle global food challenges.

In addition to the World Food Day festivities, UVAS Lahore also organized a farewell ceremony for the final year DVM students from Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, who completed their internship at UVAS. The event was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr. Muhammad Younus, with Dr. Saeed Ahmad Soomro, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dr. Aijaz Ali Channa, and numerous students in attendance.
