Islamabad: The University of Turbat (UoT) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have entered into a strategic partnership to advance research and education in climate change and disaster management. This collaboration aims to convert academic insights into actionable strategies through joint projects and educational programs.
The formal agreement was solidified with the signing of a Letter of Agreement between the University of Turbat and the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). The ceremony, held on January 1, 2026, in Islamabad, was attended by Mr. M. Tanveer Piracha, Executive Director of NIDM, and Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Turbat.
The agreement outlines a framework for cooperation on national and international research projects, as well as disaster management training and education. This includes joint workshops, seminars, and internships, alongside the exchange of faculty, researchers, and students for educational and research purposes.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan emphasized the university's commitment to contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and highlighted the potential for a regional Center of Excellence at UoT. This proposed center would enhance the outreach of the NDMA's existing Center of Excellence on Climate Change and Disaster Management.
The partnership reflects a shared dedication to leveraging academic resources for societal benefit, focusing on enhancing disaster preparedness and climate resilience through informed research and education initiatives.
