Faisalabad: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Faisalabad Campus, recently organized two significant events focusing on textile sustainability. The 8th International Conference on Sustainable Textile 2025 and the All Pakistan Textile Sustainability Student Competition 2025 were held under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore, and overseen by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin, Campus Coordinator and Chairman of the Department of Textile Engineering.
The events, which took place on December 10, 2025, aimed to address pressing global challenges in the textile sector. Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir highlighted the integral role of academia and industry in tackling issues like climate change and resource depletion. He noted that the conference aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and strengthens UET’s commitment to Pakistan’s textile industry.
The conference featured 15 international keynote speakers and 8 national experts in textile sustainability. Among the notable international speakers were Prof. Dr. Chris Carr from the University of Leeds, UK, and Dr. Jun Chen from the University of California, USA. The event drew over 1000 participants from major textile mills and academic institutions across Pakistan.
Simultaneously, the All Pakistan Textile Sustainability Student Competition showcased over 500 sustainability projects from students nationwide. The top ten projects were recognized at the event’s closing ceremony, where students received shields and prizes for their innovative work.
These initiatives underscore UET Lahore’s dedication to advancing sustainable practices in Pakistan’s textile sector. The events not only promote environmental benefits but also enhance the industry’s global competitiveness, attracting international brands to the region.
