Thalassemia Awareness Seminar Held at Bakhshali Campus

MARDAN: An awareness seminar on Thalassemia was organized at Bakhshali Campus by the Department of Biotechnology and the Department of Political Sciences, with support from Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana, Vice Chancellor, in collaboration with Jehad for Zero Thalassemia (JZT). The event, held on May 14, 2026, aimed to educate students about preventive measures and encourage societal contributions through fundraising and blood donations for Thalassemia patients.

According to Women University - Mardan, the seminar began with an introduction to JZT by Mr. Saad Raza, the organization's Coordinator. Dr. Neelam Zeb, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology and JZT Supervisor at the main campus, led a technical session on Thalassemia, discussing its prevention and cure. Following this, Ms. Marwa Hidayat, a Biotechnology graduate from Women University Mardan and JZT Coordinator, spoke about forming a volunteer student team and detailed JZT's activities.

Students participated in a poster competition on Thalassemia, with the best entries judged by Dr. Hina Jabeen, Head of the Department of Biotechnology; Dr. Hassina Bashir, Head of the Department of Political Science; and Dr. Nelofar Ikram, Assistant Professor of Political Science. Certificates were awarded to the top three winners. JZT also announced the formation of a Bakhshali Chapter, creating a volunteer team of students from various departments to support future awareness efforts.

Organizers expressed gratitude to Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana for approving and facilitating the seminar, with a commitment to holding more such activities in the future.
