Islamabad: Secretary General of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, paid tribute to the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy. He highlighted the sacrifices made by party leaders and workers in the pursuit of democracy and national development.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Bukhari acknowledged the efforts of PPP figures such as Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed-e-Jamhuriyat Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who, alongside countless party workers known as Jiyalas, dedicated their lives to the cause of democracy. Bukhari emphasized that democracy is essential for national harmony, development, public prosperity, and security in Pakistan.

Bukhari underscored the role of the PPP in safeguarding democratic principles, citing the party's contribution to the creation of the 1973 Constitution, which he described as a democratic gift. He reiterated that the PPP remains committed to protecting the constitutional, economic, and human rights of the people, and stands as a representative of their aspirations.

Bukhari also noted the party's historical actions to strengthen democratic governance, such as the abolition of Article 58(2)(b) by President Asif Ali Zardari, which transferred powers to the Parliament. He credited Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his efforts in passing the 26th Constitutional Amendment and being a vocal advocate for constitutional supremacy and an empowered Parliament.

The PPP's commitment to democracy, as highlighted by Bukhari, is deeply rooted in the sacrifices of its leaders and workers who faced imprisonment and hardships in their struggle for democratic governance in Pakistan.
