SOUTH ASIAN ATHLETICS FEDERATION ANNOUNCES COMPETITIONS AND TRIALS FOR 2024

Lahore: The South Asian Athletics Federation has slated three major athletics competitions for 2024, including events for juniors, seniors, and cross-country championships. The selection trials for the national teams participating in these events were recently held in Lahore, with substantial athlete turnout and supervision by notable officials.

According to Athletics Federation of Pakistan, the trials witnessed historic attendance with 611 athletes from across the nation competing for places in the national athletics camp. The events were overseen by Brig (R) Wajahat Hussain, President of AFP, Mr. Husnain Syed, Joint Secretary AFP, and Mr. Asghar Ali Gill, Head Coach AFP.

These trials aim to select athletes for the South Asian Junior Athletics Championships in India from September 11-13, the South Asian Senior Athletics Championships in India from October 3-5, and the South Asian Cross Country Championships in Islamabad on November 3. The selection committee has recommended several athletes for each category, who will proceed to the National Athletics Camp. This camp will focus on a variety of events including sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws.

The National Athletics Camp will prepare the athletes for the final team selection for each of the upcoming competitions. This initiative underscores the federation’s commitment to enhancing the caliber of national athletes and promoting competitive athletics within the region.
