Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) celebrated the inauguration of its new Student Council office bearers with an oath taking ceremony at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium. The event, managed by the Directorate of Students Affairs and Counselling, took place on Tuesday for the academic session 2024-25. Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, the Vice Chancellor of SMIU, administered the oaths to the representatives of the eight student societies.
According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, the ceremony was attended by nearly two thousand students who are registered voters. These students previously participated in the May 2024 elections to elect their peers into various society roles, including the Debating, Literary, Character Building, Art, Science, Community Service, Music, and Sports Societies. Dr. Sahrai in his speech acknowledged the efforts of the outgoing council members from 2022-23 and praised the democratic process at SMIU for fostering leadership and democratic values among students.
The vice chancellor encouraged the new council members to extend their engagement beyond SMIU to other educational institutions nationwide, promoting cooperation and learning. He also announced the launch of a national and international leadership program aimed at broadening the students’ horizons. Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai affirmed the university’s commitment to supporting the Student Council’s activities. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of awards and souvenirs to the student leaders and organizers, recognizing their dedication and service.
