Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) is featured in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which evaluate universities worldwide based on their contributions toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, SMIU's achievements in the 2026 rankings include being ranked 1st in Sindh province and 5th in Pakistan for SDG 15-Life on Land. For SDG 14-Life Below Water, the university is positioned 1st in Sindh and 7th nationwide. In SDG 13-Climate Action, SMIU attained the 4th position in Sindh and 18th in Pakistan. For SDG 4-Quality Education, it stands 9th in Sindh and 32nd across Pakistan. In SDG 17-Partnership for the Goals, the university is ranked 12th in Sindh and 44th in the country.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Vice Chancellor of SMIU, expressed his congratulations to the faculty and officers involved, highlighting the university's ongoing efforts to enhance academic quality, research impact, and sustainability initiatives. He noted the improvement in SMIU's global ranking, moving from the 1500-plus category to between 1001 and 1500, indicating significant performance enhancement.
Dr. Sahrai emphasized that SMIU's participation in THE Impact Ranking provides a global benchmark for institutional performance, enhances research visibility, promotes international collaboration, and supports continuous quality enhancement for a sustainable future. He acknowledged the university's positive trajectory in key SDGs, reflecting its dedication to quality education, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices.
