Punjab University Athletes Triumph with Nine Medals at Asian Rowing Championships

Lahore: Athletes from Punjab University (PU) have set a new benchmark by securing nine medals at the Asian Rowing Indoor Championship in Penang, Malaysia, marking a historic achievement for the institution. Competing against participants from 19 countries, the PU team brought home five gold, three silver, and one bronze medal.

According to University of the Punjab, standout performances came from multiple students across different departments. Abdul Rahman of the Department of Economics garnered two gold medals and one silver, while Zarak Khan from Hailey College clinched two golds. Gohar Ayub and Iqra, both from the Sports Sciences department, also contributed significantly with their medal wins. Additionally, Rahman and Khan received accolades as the best time performers of the championship, highlighting their exceptional skills and training.

The success of the PU athletes was celebrated by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, who lauded the hard work and dedication of the sports department, coaches, and players. He acknowledged the financial support provided by the university, which allocated Rs. 15 lakh to facilitate the team’s participation in the event, underscoring PU’s commitment to promoting sports excellence despite budget constraints.
