LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali inaugurated a solo art exhibition by Rabia Shaukat, a PhD scholar at the College of Art & Design (CAD), showcasing the cultural heritage and traditional crafts of Southern Punjab. The event, held at CAD, was attended by Director of Lahore Museum Taseer Ahmed, PU Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mehmood Saleem, Dean Faculty of Arts & Humanities Prof. Dr. Mehboob Hussain, Principal CAD Prof. Dr. Samina Nasim, faculty members, and students.

According to University of the Punjab, the exhibition features a collection of artworks inspired by Southern Punjab's traditional crafts, cultural practices, and artistic traditions. The exhibition aims to highlight the region's visual heritage and promote the preservation of its crafts. Speaking at the event, PU VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali commended the student's work in documenting and reinterpreting the cultural heritage of Southern Punjab. He noted that the artwork illustrates how handicrafts can be commercialized to enhance the living standards in the region. He also emphasized the significance of such exhibitions in boosting artists' morale and confidence.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted the role of universities, especially art and design institutions, in offering platforms for artists and researchers to explore and present Pakistan's cultural traditions. He underscored the importance of linking craft with indigenous traditional arts, which allows various stakeholders to engage with Pakistan's cultural heritage.
