PTI Senior Leader Claims Election Act Amendments Violate Constitution and Judiciary Independence

Lahore: Musrat Jamshed Cheema, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has voiced serious concerns over recent amendments to the Election Act, alleging that these changes undermine the Constitution and jeopardize the independence of the judiciary.

According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the modifications to the Election Act were driven by personal and political motivations, aimed at pitting the parliament against the judiciary. Cheema stressed that such legislative changes should not serve the exclusive interests of the ruling party but must adhere to constitutional norms and the broader aspirations of the populace.

The senior PTI leader emphasized the critical role of the parliament in upholding the Constitution and questioned the propriety of its interpretation in this context. Cheema also declared the party’s strong opposition to the specific provisions in the amended Election Act, which he claims unjustly targets PTI by denying it certain parliamentary seats. He affirmed PTI’s commitment to challenge these amendments across all available forums.
