Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) held the oath-taking ceremony for its newly elected Students' Council and nine student societies on Thursday. The event highlighted the significance of leadership that is visionary, empathetic, and adaptive. Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, officiated as Chief Guest alongside SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai to administer the oaths.
In his address at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium, Mr. Rajput expressed his pleasure at engaging with the youth at SMIU. He commended the enthusiasm of the newly elected council and acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing members in enhancing student engagement. Emphasizing the need for skills beyond academic excellence, Mr. Rajput spoke on the importance of emotional intelligence and adaptability in today's fast-evolving world.
He encouraged students to dream big, adapt to rapid changes, and learn from historical revolutions and civilizations. Highlighting leadership qualities, he referred to the works of poets Allama Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz, urging students to act as ambassadors for the Ombudsman institution to promote citizens' rights awareness.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Sahrai, in his welcome remarks, expressed gratitude to Mr. Rajput for his continued support and engagement with SMIU. He shared insights on the university's growth, noting a significant increase in student enrollment over five years. He emphasized the need for universities to align leadership with societal realities and stressed the importance of faculty involvement in student affairs and innovation.
Dr. Sahrai encouraged students to engage in platforms like Model United Nations and innovation initiatives, stressing the ethical use of technology amid emerging challenges. He concluded by congratulating new council members, reminding them of the responsibility that leadership entails.
Assistant Professor Mr. Wafa Mansoor Buriro and Senior Manager Student Affairs Ms. Qurratulain Memon highlighted the dedication of SMIU students and the transparent electoral process. The ceremony concluded with a commitment to fostering leadership and holistic education, followed by a presentation of souvenirs and certificates to distinguished guests and council members.
