Protesters Rally Outside American Jail Demanding Release of Aafia Siddiqui

Karachi: Human rights activists gathered outside FMC Carswell jail in a peaceful demonstration to demand the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, drawing attention to her ongoing detention. Hundreds of participants, including men, women, and children, joined the protest to show their support.

In Texas, religious scholar Imam Omar Suleiman addressed the demonstration, although he has not been granted permission by the jail administration to meet with Siddiqui. His participation underscores the international interest in Siddiqui’s case.

Clive Smith, Siddiqui’s lawyer, has previously stated that she faces severe conditions in the jail, alleging ongoing sexual violence and comparing her situation unfavorably to that of inmates at Guantanamo Bay. A contingency plan for her release, referred to as “Plan B,” has been devised, though details remain undisclosed.

The protest highlights the ongoing advocacy efforts by the Aafia Movement and others to secure Siddiqui’s release, amid concerns about her treatment and the conditions of her confinement.
