ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari marked National Newspapers Readership Day by emphasizing the critical role of a free press in safeguarding citizens' rights and holding leaders accountable. He underscored the importance of newspapers in shaping public opinion and fostering an informed society, whether through print or digital platforms.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Zardari highlighted the challenges posed by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and the proliferation of fake news, which impact societal values and behaviors. He stressed the need for credible and balanced reporting backed by responsible editorial oversight.

The president urged Pakistani youth to cultivate newspaper reading habits, emphasizing the importance of modern technological skills. He also acknowledged the role of newspapers in strengthening democracy and called on editorial boards to address socio-economic, religious, political, and foreign policy issues.

Zardari expressed hopes that media organizations such as APNS and CPNE would continue to enhance national discourse and public understanding of regional and global developments. He assured the press of his support for maintaining high journalism standards and fostering an environment conducive to a free press.
