Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari, in a message marking World Teachers' Day, extended his appreciation to educators in Pakistan and globally, emphasizing their vital role in education, human development, and nation-building.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari underscored the importance of teachers as central figures in education systems, highlighting their role in imparting knowledge, nurturing curiosity, and shaping the character and values of students. He noted that this year's observance of World Teachers' Day is particularly significant, marking the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. The theme, "Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures," calls attention to the need for recognizing teachers' importance and providing them with professional support and opportunities.
President Zardari stressed the necessity of strengthening the teaching profession in Pakistan to enhance education quality and expand opportunities for children and youth. He called for continued investment in teacher education, professional development, and supportive learning environments. He acknowledged the impact of technology on education delivery, stating that while it supports teaching and learning, it cannot replace the essential human qualities teachers bring into classrooms, such as empathy, mentorship, and ethical guidance.
The president particularly acknowledged teachers working in remote and underserved areas, emphasizing the need for adequate training, resources, and working conditions to ensure all children have fair learning opportunities. He urged governments, educational institutions, parents, communities, civil society, and the private sector to collaborate in strengthening and respecting the teaching profession, describing this support as an investment in Pakistan's education and future.
President Zardari paid tribute to Pakistani teachers for their dedication, patience, and service, recognizing their influence on the knowledge, character, and aspirations of future generations. He concluded by invoking blessings for teachers and guidance in efforts to provide quality education for every child.
