PPP and Prime Minister Resolve No Canal Construction Without Provincial Consensus

Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, led a PPP delegation in a meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his team in Islamabad. After the meeting, both leaders announced that no canal projects will proceed without unanimous agreement among all provinces.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari explained that the decision followed detailed discussions between the two delegations. The meeting resulted in a commitment to ensure provincial consensus before any canal construction. This resolution will be ratified in the upcoming Council of Common Interests meeting on May 2.

Bilawal noted that three provinces had voiced objections to the Kalabagh Dam project. The joint decision confirmed that mutual agreement is essential for any future canal developments.

In addition, Bilawal addressed India’s recent statements on the Indus Waters Treaty. He declared that Pakistan will respond robustly and bring the issue to public attention, affirming the country’s stance on the matter.
