Rawalpindi: Pakistan has set their lineup for the first Test against Bangladesh, confirming star batter Babar Azam will bat at number four. The match is part of the ICC World Test Championship series starting this Wednesday in Rawalpindi.

According to International Cricket Council, Babar Azam, who had previously batted at number three, will continue in his role at second drop, resisting changes under new coach Jason Gillespie. The team has opted for a strong pace attack, foregoing a specialist spinner for the initial contest on home soil.

The lineup includes openers Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub, with captain Shan Masood at number three. Vice-captain Saud Shakeel will follow Babar Azam at number five, and Mohammad Rizwan will keep wickets and bat at six. The pace quartet comprises Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Ali.

Pakistan’s selection leaves out Mir Hamza, Mohammad Huraira, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, following the release of fast bowler Aamir Jamal from the squad earlier this week. Despite the absence of Bangladesh’s injured opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Pakistan captain Salman expects a challenging series, citing Bangladesh’s balanced team and proficient bowling.

The two teams are set to engage in what promises to be a compelling series as part of the ongoing championship efforts.
