LUMS and AKU Join Forces to Tackle Key Development Challenges in Pakistan

LAHORE: The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and the Aga Khan University (AKU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research, innovation, and education initiatives aimed at addressing critical development challenges in Pakistan. This partnership seeks to leverage the strengths of both institutions to deliver solutions in areas like health, climate change, education, and sustainable development.

According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the interdisciplinary alliance will combine AKU’s expertise in health sciences with LUMS’ capabilities in technology, data science, and public policy. This collaboration aims to produce evidence-based, scalable solutions that are relevant to policy and grounded in real-world needs. The effort will involve joint research initiatives on topics such as climate resilience, antimicrobial resistance, and sustainable development, while also engaging with policymakers and industry partners to ensure practical impact.

Educational innovation is another cornerstone of the partnership, which includes plans for collaborative academic programs, faculty exchanges, and interdisciplinary teaching modules. By working together, the two universities intend to enhance Pakistan’s research and innovation ecosystem through initiatives in grant development, ethics, and governance. The agreement, signed by AKU Provost Dr. Tania Bubela and LUMS Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema, will be in effect for an initial period of five years.
