Lahore: Maroof Ahmed, a distinguished alumnus of Lahore Business School (LBS) at the University of Lahore, is making significant strides as the Assistant Manager in the Innovation and Financial Inclusion Department at Habib Bank Limited (HBL). Ahmed’s journey from academia to a key role in Pakistan’s financial sector underscores the transformative impact of targeted education on career development.
According to The University of Lahore, Ahmed transitioned from a pre-medical background to a Bachelor of Business Administration at UOL after an initial setback in medical entrance exams. This change paved the way for his future in banking and finance. The Press and Publications Cell (PPC) at UOL highlighted Ahmed’s academic and professional journey in a recent interview where he shared insights into how his education prepared him for his current role at HBL.
“UOL provided a comprehensive foundation in finance, economics, business management, and marketing,” Ahmed noted during the interview. He emphasized that the coursework not only equipped him with necessary financial acumen but also enhanced his problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, crucial for his role in developing innovative financial solutions and strategies at Habib Bank.
Ahmed also detailed specific courses and projects that were pivotal during his time at UOL. A course on Financial Management, for instance, deepened his understanding of financial analysis and risk management, while Strategic Management equipped him with skills in long-term strategic planning and decision-making. A standout project in financial modeling particularly prepared him for the analytical demands of his job, allowing him to apply complex theoretical concepts in practical, real-world settings.
Furthermore, Ahmed credited extracurricular activities, particularly his involvement with The-LBiets Society, where he served as vice president, for enhancing his leadership skills and expanding his professional network. These experiences, he said, were instrumental in preparing him for the challenges and responsibilities of his role at Habib Bank.
For current students aspiring to enter the financial sector, Ahmed advised a proactive approach in acquiring a robust understanding of finance and marketing, participating in internships, and engaging in networking opportunities to build a solid foundation for a career in innovation and financial inclusion.
