Kohli Nears Top Spot in ICC ODI Batter Rankings Amid Flurry of Centuries

Dubai: Achievements with the bat in One Day International (ODI) cricket have led to significant changes in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Rankings. Eight centuries were recorded in the format last week, with a remarkable six on September 27, marking the most in a single day where records are known. This surge in batting performances has resulted in notable shifts in the ICC Batting Rankings as teams gear up for the Cricket World Cup 2027.

According to International Cricket Council, Virat Kohli's 55th ODI century, scoring 139 not out against the West Indies, has propelled him to second place in the rankings with a rating of 796. Kohli's rise is part of India's strong showing, with his teammate Shubman Gill leading the rankings with a rating of 816, bolstered by his own century in the same match. Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand currently occupies third place with a rating of 794, preventing an Indian sweep of the top three spots, while Rohit Sharma is in fourth with a rating of 719.

Other notable movements in the rankings include Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis, who climbed three places to a career-best seventh position with his 121-run performance in Leeds. England's Harry Brook is closing in on a top-ten position, moving to 11th after a half-century at The Oval, just three points behind Ireland's Harry Tector.

In South Africa, Temba Bavuma's century against Australia propelled him up ten places to 32nd, while Matthew Breetzke rose 19 places to 21st. David Miller re-entered the rankings at 41st after scoring 142 off 93 balls in the second ODI against Australia. On the bowling side, South African Keshav Maharaj's performances against Australia saw him jump three places to third in the ODI Bowling Rankings. Meanwhile, Australia's Josh Hazlewood improved his standing among fast bowlers, moving five places to 10th after taking four wickets in two ODIs.

In the all-rounder rankings, Marco Jansen's contributions against Australia have elevated him three places to 15th. In T20I rankings, Kushal Bhurtel of Nepal made a notable seven-spot climb to 21st among all-rounders during the Asian Games in Japan.
