KARACHI: Karachi is grappling with daily traffic congestion, causing frustration for its residents and prompting calls for AI-powered traffic management, as emphasized by Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor. He highlighted the need for advanced solutions to unclog the city's roads, which he described as the arteries of the megacity.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Shakoor underscored the necessity of implementing adaptive signals, an integrated command center, drone monitoring, and real-time enforcement to address the chronic congestion. He criticized the current fragmented system managed by multiple agencies and called for consolidated efforts to improve traffic management through technology.
Shakoor advocated for AI-powered adaptive traffic signals at major intersections and the establishment of a Central Integrated Traffic Management & Command Centre. He also emphasized automated enforcement and drone surveillance to tackle traffic violations and illegal parking. Additionally, he proposed smart parking solutions and real-time traffic data sharing with platforms like Google Maps to aid commuters.
Expressing the urgency of the situation, Shakoor demanded political will and administrative coordination to implement these modern tools, asserting that AI-powered traffic management is essential for a city of over 20 million people. He called for a unified Karachi Traffic Management Authority and a 90-day pilot project on key roads, urging authorities to act swiftly to resolve the city's traffic crisis.
