Karachi: In a thrilling finale to the PCB Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament Karachi Region, the Regional Cricket Association Karachi Zone VI emerged victorious over Zone IV by 7 wickets. The match concluded a series of three crucial encounters in the tournament’s fifth round, showcasing the depth of cricket talent in the region.
According to Regional Cricket Association Karachi, the final showdown at KCCA Stadium saw Zone IV first taking the bat and scoring 138 runs in their initial innings. Notable performances included Naimat Khan scoring 34 runs and Yasir Mushtaq adding 30 runs, while Zone VI’s bowlers Saifullah and Tariq Khan took multiple wickets, showcasing tight bowling controls.
Zone VI responded with 136 runs in their first innings, narrowly trailing by two runs. Khawaja Muhammad Nafay led the scoring with 42 runs. The match heated up in the second innings where Zone IV set a target of 151 runs, buoyed by Muhammad Afzal’s half-century and Abdullah Fazal’s contribution of 42 runs. Tariq Khan continued his exceptional form, taking a total of 10 wickets in the match, which significantly hampered Zone IV’s efforts.
Chasing a modest target of 154, Zone VI clinched the championship title comfortably, scoring 157 for 3. Khawaja Nafay once again topped the batting chart with 57 runs, supported by significant knocks from Arbaaz Khan and Akbar ul Rehman.
In other matches of the round, Zone V dominated Zone III with a commanding 150-run victory at Landhi Gymkhana. Zone V’s robust first innings score of 317 runs was too much for Zone III, which collapsed for 171. The match featured stellar performances from Moazzam Malik and Junaid Ilyas, who took crucial wickets.
Additionally, Zone One decisively defeated Zone VII by 183 runs at RLCA Ground Gulbarg, underpinned by strong batting performances from Zia ur Rehman, Alman Shafiq, and Zubair Dilawar. Zone One’s bowlers, notably Rahman Ghani and Mirza Ahsan Jameel, took pivotal wickets that cemented their victory.
