Nisshin: Clinical performances from India and Sri Lanka have set the stage for a highly anticipated clash in the Asian Games Women's Cricket Final. India secured their spot with a decisive 114-run victory over Bangladesh, while Sri Lanka earned their place by overcoming Pakistan.
According to International Cricket Council, India opted to bat first against Bangladesh, with openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma leading the charge. Mandhana's 37 off 19 balls made her the highest run-scorer in women's T20I cricket. Shafali Verma's explosive innings continued, culminating in a maiden T20I century off just 49 balls, helping India post a formidable total of 195/4. India's bowlers maintained pressure throughout, dismissing Bangladesh for 81 in just 15.4 overs.
In the other semifinal held in Nisshin, Sri Lanka also demonstrated formidable prowess. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka restricted Pakistan to 177/4, their highest-ever total against the island nation. Sri Lanka successfully chased down the target with 2.1 overs to spare, thanks to skipper Chamari Athapaththu's unbeaten 83 off 50 balls, equaling their highest T20I total in a successful chase.
With India and Sri Lanka set to compete for the gold medal, attention now turns to the bronze medal match between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Both finals will take place on September 22.
