Dubai: The International Cricket Council has announced the nominees for the ICC Women's Player of the Month for September 2026. Shafali Verma and Sree Charani from India, along with Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu, have been shortlisted for their outstanding performances across the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games.
According to International Cricket Council, Shafali Verma demonstrated exceptional prowess both with the bat and ball, scoring 360 runs in seven T20Is and taking six wickets. Her contributions were pivotal in India clinching the Women's Asia Cup and securing a gold medal at the Asian Games. Verma emerged as the leading run-scorer in the Women's Asia Cup and delivered a maiden T20I century against Bangladesh during the Asian Games.
Chamari Athapaththu, the captain of the Sri Lankan team, also made significant contributions with her all-round capabilities. Across seven T20Is, Athapaththu scored 226 runs and took 14 wickets. Her performance included a remarkable bowling spell against Indonesia in the Women's Asia Cup, taking 7/5, and an unbeaten 83 against Pakistan in the Asian Games semi-final.
Sree Charani, another standout performer from India, was recognized for her exceptional bowling throughout the month. Charani took 18 wickets in seven T20Is at an average of 4.83, including critical performances in the finals of both the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games. She also achieved a milestone in the ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings, becoming the highest-rated bowler in history with 817 rating points.
The nominees are being celebrated for their contributions to their respective teams' successes in September, with the winner set to be announced in due course.
