Lahore: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has initiated a major move to elevate the standards of engineering education and research by forming a high-level committee. The committee will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, and is tasked with developing recommendations for reforming engineering education nationwide.
According to University of Engineering and Technology, a seminar titled "Reforms in Engineering Education and Research" was held at the University of Chakwal, marking the committee's first major engagement. Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir led discussions alongside a delegation that included the Director Studies, Director ORIC, and Director External Linkages. Discussions at the seminar focused on modernizing the engineering curriculum, promoting research, and enhancing academia-industry connections. Dr. Farrukh Arsalan Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor of the University of Chakwal and alumnus of UET Lahore, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two universities.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UET Lahore and the University of Chakwal during the event. The agreement aims to boost academic and research cooperation through faculty exchange, joint research supervision, and student exchange programs, all intended to improve the quality of engineering education in Pakistan.
Dr. Shahid Munir expressed that the initiative is expected to align engineering education reforms with contemporary needs and strengthen ties among academic and research institutions across the country.
