Hangu’s Voter Registration Rate Surpasses National Average

HANGU: Hangu has reported a voter registration rate of 65% of its estimated 2025 population, surpassing the national average by 11 percentage points, according to district-wise electoral roll statistics. This rate places Hangu significantly above the national voter registration ratio of 54%.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, these figures were derived from data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on 30 December 2025, which were cross-referenced with population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. Hangu's estimated 2025 population, based on a 0.32% inter-censal annual growth rate, stands at 532,293, with 345,945 registered voters. The district ranks 7th nationally and 3rd within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by voter registration rate.

The high registration rate in Hangu is attributed to the methodology of the 2023 Digital Census, which recorded household members at their current address if they had been absent for more than six months. This method, combined with significant labor migration to urban centers and abroad, has resulted in a voter registration roll that exceeds the resident population denominator. Despite the high registration rate, a gender gap remains, with male voters accounting for 55.3% of the electorate and female voters 44.7%. This indicates a need for targeted registration campaigns for women ahead of the next general elections.
