Karachi: Habib University is challenging the misconception that liberal arts and social sciences graduates face limited job opportunities. Novaira Khan, a 2020 graduate, exemplifies this by excelling in her role as a Civil Service Officer in Pakistan’s Audit and Accounts Service. Inspired by her grandfather and a desire to serve her country, Khan pursued a degree in Social Development and Policy at Habib University.
Khan’s education at Habib University was characterized by courses that emphasized empathy and diverse perspectives. One course, “Sacred Geographies,” particularly resonated with her, reflecting anti-colonial knowledge systems and local heritage. She credited Habib’s interdisciplinary approach with helping her pass the Civil Services Examination (CSS) on her first attempt.
In her role, Khan has conducted audits for institutions like Khyber Teaching Hospital and the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation. Her empathy and passion for public service have been key to her success in the civil service.
Khan’s journey highlights the potential of liberal arts graduates to make a significant impact, serving as an inspiration to others with a clear vision and dedication to public service.
