Financial Irregularities of Rs836 Billion in Sindh Departments Prompt Concerns from PTI Sindh President

KARACHI: Haleem Adil Sheikh, the President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh, has expressed concern over the identification of financial irregularities totaling over Rs836 billion in various Sindh government departments. This revelation, highlighted in the Auditor General of Pakistan's audit report for the financial year 2023-24, raises significant questions about the management, oversight, and accountability of public funds.

According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the audit report points to issues in the recovery of large sums, lack of official records, and discrepancies in recruitment, procurement, development projects, and internal financial controls. Sheikh has called on the Sindh government to clarify the accountability for these financial missteps and detail the steps taken to rectify them.

He noted that the audit objections target critical departments such as health, education, irrigation, energy, and works and services, which raises transparency concerns about public services and development initiatives. Sheikh emphasized that while citizens continue to face shortages in basic facilities, substantial objections about government spending and financial records persist.

The PTI Sindh president has demanded impartial investigations into all audit objections, legal action against those responsible for financial losses or corruption, and the recovery of public funds where justified. He also stressed the importance of making these findings public.

Sheikh remarked that audit objections should not be automatically assumed as definitive cases of corruption, underscoring the need for transparent investigations. Nonetheless, he insisted that the provincial government must provide satisfactory answers to these objections and implement measures to protect public funds. "Public resources are held in trust for the people, and transparency and accountability in their use must be ensured at all costs," he stated.
