Dow University’s Acting Vice Chancellor Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by DOGANA


Karachi: Acting Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Professor Jahan Ara Hassan, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dow Graduates Association of North America (DOGANA). The recognition was bestowed during DOGANA’s annual summer convention held in Dallas, Texas, reflecting her significant contributions to medical education and research.



Professor Hassan, an alumna of Dow Medical College’s 1989 batch and the first PhD graduate of DUHS, has dedicated over 30 years to academia and healthcare. Her leadership at DUHS has strengthened the institution’s national and international reputation.



Expressing gratitude, Professor Hassan dedicated the award to her mentors, colleagues, students, and patients who have supported her journey. Her career milestones include being the first HEC-approved PhD supervisor in gynecology in Pakistan and contributing over fifty scientific articles to esteemed journals.



During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served as Medical Superintendent and later as Director of ICU and OT Complex at DUHS Hospital, earning recognition for her leadership. Her efforts led to the hospital’s accreditation by the Sindh Healthcare Commission, enhancing patient safety standards.



As Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Hassan has been instrumental in introducing new fellowship programs and fostering institutional discipline and growth. She encourages aspiring medical professionals, particularly women, to pursue their careers with dedication and integrity.
