Chagai Voter Registration Lags Behind National Average, Significant Gender Gap Noted

Chagai: The voter registration rate in Chagai stands at 45% of its projected 2025 population, trailing the national average by nine percentage points. The district's voter base consists of 129,619 individuals, with a notable disparity between registered male and female voters.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, these statistics are based on district-wise electoral roll data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on December 30, 2025. The figures are cross-referenced with population estimates derived from the 2023 Digital Census, applying a 2.93% annual growth rate to Chagai's base population to reach an estimated 2025 population of 285,198.

Among the registered voters, males account for 57.1% while females represent 42.9%. The registration rate among males is 50%, compared to 41% for females. This places Chagai 100th nationally in voter registration rate and 8th among the 34 districts within Balochistan. The district is ranked 120th by population size out of 136 districts in the country.

The significant gender gap in voter registration is a primary factor contributing to Chagai's below-average rate. The female voter registration rate is lower than that of males, with 18,421 fewer female voters. This disparity is attributed to restricted mobility, lower female CNIC penetration, and social constraints on civic participation, which remain barriers to female voter registration.

Efforts to address this issue include the deployment of mobile NADRA units and ECP outreach through local community networks, which are deemed crucial to reducing the gender gap in voter registration ahead of the next general elections.
