Rawalpindi: Today, the city of Rawalpindi will mark Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, with dedicated religious processions emanating from several Imambargahs including Ashiq Hussain Teli Mohalla, Colonel Maqbool Hussain College Road, and Samfti Ali Shah Bohar Bazar. These processions are set to converge in the city center, where participants will engage in traditional mourning rituals to honor Imam Hussain (A.S.).
According to Tehreek Nafaze Fiqhe Jafariya, the main procession will feature significant religious activities such as the creation of mourning chains at key city junctions and the display of Zul-Janah, symbolizing Imam Hussain’s horse, which is a central element of the Ashura commemorations. Allama Qamar Haider Zaidi will discuss the philosophical aspects of Imam Hussain’s sacrifice during the procession at Fuara Chowk. Additionally, the Mukhtar Students Organization, along with other community groups, will manage mourning camps and provide medical assistance to the participants.
Various segments of the community, including religious and social organizations, have organized for Sabeel (water stations) and Langar-e-Hussaini (food distribution) along the procession routes to support the attendees. The day will culminate with the Majlis Sham Ghariban, a gathering to mourn Imam Hussain’s martyrdom, symbolizing the end of the Ashura observance.
