Pakistan’s Arafat Minhas Achieves Rare ODI Milestone Against England

Rawalpindi: In a remarkable display of all-round cricket, Pakistan's young talent Arafat Minhas has etched his name in the annals of the sport by becoming only the third Pakistani men's player to score a half-century and take a five-wicket haul in the same One Day International (ODI). This accomplishment came during Pakistan's commanding 87-run victory over England on Tuesday.

According to International Cricket Council, Arafat joins the esteemed company of Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq, who previously achieved this feat for Pakistan. The 21-year-old's performance was instrumental in Pakistan's triumph, as he scored 59 runs from 58 balls before taking six wickets for 40 runs, dismantling England's batting lineup. This achievement marks just the 25th instance of such a feat in men's ODIs, placing Arafat alongside cricket legends like Viv Richards, Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, and Shakib Al Hasan.

In only his 12th international match and fifth ODI, Arafat's strategic left-arm spin bowling claimed key wickets, including those of England's captain Harry Brook and seasoned players Adil Rashid, Will Jacks, and Jamie Overton. The young all-rounder attributed his success to maintaining simple bowling plans and utilizing variations to unsettle the opposition.

Arafat's standout performance has garnered praise from his teammates, with Pakistan's captain Shaheen Afridi commending the young player's potential and expressing optimism about his future contributions. Afridi emphasized the importance of Arafat's form and versatility as Pakistan prepares for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia next year.

England's captain Brook, reflecting on the defeat, acknowledged the failure to build effective partnerships during the run chase and noted the team's overly cautious approach against Pakistan's spinners. With the tri-series underway, Pakistan has already secured victories against both Sri Lanka and England, with further matches scheduled in Lahore as teams gear up for the final on October 31.
