Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Supports Emergency Imposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, declared his support for the federal government's decision to impose emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, emphasizing the necessity of the measure despite his reluctance. He urged for continued political dialogue to address the underlying issues.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressed the National Assembly, underscoring the constitutional and political conditions that led to the emergency declaration. He highlighted Article 232 of the Constitution, noting that the federal government had exhausted efforts to engage the opposition before resorting to this step. He attributed the current political turmoil to the actions of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which he described as a form of political self-sabotage.

Bilawal stressed the importance of negotiation and national unity in combating terrorism, noting the opposition's role in the crisis. He recounted the near-success of negotiations with opposition parties to declare affected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as terrorist-affected zones and work collaboratively on counterterrorism efforts. Despite this, he maintained that the emergency was a temporary solution necessitated by the province's precarious security situation.

He called for the opposition to acknowledge its shared responsibility and for all political entities to unite against terrorism. Bilawal also addressed international dynamics, accusing India of sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan and criticizing its interference in Afghanistan. He urged Pakistani unity against external threats and internal divisions.

Bilawal invited the opposition to participate in electoral reforms and emphasized the need for a consensus on national issues to prevent further political and national deterioration. He reiterated the PPP's commitment to defeating terrorism and improving the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expressing hope for the removal of the emergency if political conditions improve.
