Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud Achieves Historic Test Hat-Trick Against Afghanistan

Abu Dhabi: Bangladesh's fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the first fast bowler from his nation to secure a hat-trick in Test cricket. This milestone was achieved during the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, where Mahmud's performance was pivotal in dismantling the opponent's batting lineup and contributing to his five-wicket haul.

According to International Cricket Council, Mahmud joined the elite ranks of Alok Kapali and Sohag Gazi as the only players from Bangladesh to achieve a Test hat-trick. The right-arm bowler executed his feat by first bowling out Ismat Alam, followed by dismissing Qais Ahmad and Zia-ur-Rehman with consecutive deliveries. Mahmud expressed his elation after the day's play, as Bangladesh reached 223/6 in their second innings, establishing a 329-run lead.

Reflecting on his strategy, Mahmud emphasized the importance of maintaining an upright bowling posture to leverage the morning wicket's movement. His recent performances, including a match-winning haul against Australia in Darwin, signify his growing influence in Bangladesh's bowling arsenal. Although the match against Afghanistan does not contribute to the ICC World Test Championship, Mahmud's 5/55 from 21 overs stands testament to his skill and form.

Mahmud also credited his captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das for their crucial role in his hat-trick success. Their advice to review the LBW decision against Zia-ur-Rehman proved instrumental, allowing Mahmud to complete his historic achievement. "I just felt that I should bowl straight. That's it. Let the ball do the job," Mahmud recounted, underscoring his focus on precision and technique.
